Sister Margaret was born in New York City.  When she was a small girl, Sister Margaret’s family moved to Hamburg, New York, giving her the first in a number of transition experiences throughout her vibrant, missionary life.  “I wanted to become a nun,” she said, “since grade school.  The mission interested me so very much that in my sophomore year of high school I contacted the Maryknoll Sisters about entering.”

In 1963, at the age of nineteen, Sister Margaret joined Maryknoll, making her First Vows three years later. After obtaining a Bachelor of Arts degree in Community Service from Rogers College in 1970, Sister was assigned to Nicaragua at a truly critical time in the country’s history.  During her fourteen years of mission there, Sister Margaret served devotedly through the devastating earthquake of 1973, the final days of General Somoza’s oppressive dictatorship, and the Sandanista revolution of 1978.  She involved herself in pastoral ministry in the Nicaraguan church, in social development and literacy programs, and in leadership training and formation for Basic Christian Communities – all while responding to the people’s emergency needs.

After pursuing theological studies back home in the early 1980s, followed by work on mission education for justice and peace, Sister Margaret returned to Nicaragua in 1985, arriving full of hope for peace negotiations.  She remained there until 1988.

When Sister Margaret returned to the U.S. to work in Congregational Service, she earned a Master’s degree in Spirituality and Scripture.

In 1998, she was assigned to the Maryknoll Sisters’ Ecological Sanctuary in the Philippines, where she remained for three years before returning home to care for her father until 2006.

In 2007, Sister Margaret was assigned to El Salvador for a brief period. Then from 2008 – 2014 Sister Peg served at the Maryknoll Sisters Center in congregational service.

In 2015, Sister Peg was assigned to Panama where her missionary work focuses on our environment and being a one earth community.  She then returned to the Maryknoll Sisters Center, Maryknoll, NY where she now works in the Mission Institute Department.
