Jeong Mi Lee was born August 22, 1967 in Pusan, Korea to Yim Dong-Sun (Mom) and Lee Chi-Hun. She had 8 sisters. Jeong Mi graduated from Young Do Women’s High School, Pusan in 1984 (?) and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1990 from Pusan Women’s University. She also studied Korean traditional dance. She and a friend even began a dance studio in Pusan.
Sister Jeong Mi began working with the Maryknoll Sisters on Shin Ne Island. She spent three years learning English while working with street children in the Philippines.
Jeong Mi entered the Maryknoll Sisters in Mount Vernon, NY in August 1,1996 and two weeks later celebrated her 29th birthday. She professed First Vows September 12, 1998 at the Sisters Center in NY and Final Vows, July 3, 2004 also at the Center. After profession of vows in 1996, Sister Jeong Mi received her first mission assignment to Zimbabwe, Africa.
Sister Jeong Mi Lee’s ministry took shape with an outreach project of the National Ballet of Zimbabwe, which offered classes to children who are physically and mentally challenged.
Sister Jeong Mi felt good about the transformation that took place when the children in her classes removed their artificial legs and arms, relaxed, sat on the floor, and enjoyed the movements they can make to the music.
