Sister Jane, has been a Maryknoll Sister for over 60 years.  Born in Milwaukee, WI, she entered the Maryknoll Sisters in 1949 from St. Sebastian Parish, Milwaukee.  After her First Professions of Vows, she studied at St. Louis Medical School in St. Louis, MO and completed a surgical internship at St Vincent’s Hospital in New York City.

In 1963 she was assigned to Guatemala where she worked in the local hospital in Jacaltenango.  She then conducted Public Health Programs and began training Health Promoters in San Marcos, as well as doing some pastoral work in the formation of leaders.  She continued this work in Las Cruces, El Peten and in Catarina, San Marcos.  This program was expanded to a diocesan level in the Diocese of San Marcos in 1990.   In 1993 she was awarded an honorary doctor of laws degree from Marquette University for her work as a medical missionary in Guatemala.  From 1974 – 1978 Sister Jane was elected to be on the Congregational Governing Board in Maryknoll, NY.

At present, Sister Jane ministers to the sick in a remote coastal region of Guatemala.  She has combined spiritual and medical healing in her ministry.  She has established programs to involve the Guatemalans in becoming self- sufficient in matters of personal hygiene, preventive medicine and the treatment of parasitic and contagious diseases.  All in all, Sister Jane has served in Guatemala for over 50 years.
