St. Mary’s Preschool Destroyed by Fire
Please help us rebuild this community as well as many others around the world.
Just four months after opening its doors to Vietnamese children integrating with Cambodian society, Saint Mary’s Preschool burned to the ground. Everything in the building, including all the handmade teaching materials and brand new equipment, was destroyed. The fire swept quickly through this small village, taking the homes of 97 families and displacing many Vietnamese who are already unsettled as stateless residents of Cambodia.
Maryknoll Sister Mary Little organizes education for the most vulnerable of poor children — the ethnic Vietnamese — in this village of Chake Angre, Cambodia. With Sr. Mary’s help, these Vietnamese children learn Khmer, the language they’ll need to attend Cambodian public schools. They also study math, start to read and make friends for life.
This is just one of the many ways the Maryknoll Sisters serve in mission. As teachers, nurses, doctors, social workers, economists, environmentalists, and communicators, the Sisters bring healing and hope to marginalized communities in Africa, Asia and Latin America.
